Random Thoughts Thursdays

-I don’t know what it is exactly, but it has been really hard to get into the Christmas/holiday spirit this year. Perhaps, I need to drink some more spirits. In fact, after posting this, I think I’ll have some egg nog with a shot or four of whiskey;) Since this is my first Christmas as a non-NYC resident, I have not done any of my typical NYC holiday activities to get me into the mood. For example, paying for an overpriced Christmas tree that is the same height as five year old; ice skating in Central Park; holiday-themed barcrawling; listening to those three random (and drunk) men sing holiday classics on the subway; seeing a rat eat baked holiday goods

-I can’t believe this sh*t news: I actually woke up without an alarm at 5:14 am to attend a morning group workout. Extra credit because 1) the workout was outdoors and 2) it was cold AF (27F).

-Speaking of cold. I was in such a hurry to make it to the 6:15 am workout that I totally forgot that one has to scrape the windshield in freezing temps. I cannot remember the last time I had to do something like that.

-Interesting, I went to Walmart (not my favorite place) to buy a scraper, spent close to $150 on other things for the house, and forgot to buy the damn ice scraper.

-I guess Eurovision has really given me some interesting Spotify Wrapped results. This probably happened because I made the official move from Apple Music to Spotify around the time of this year’s Eurovision.

-I actually had to look up Laiko music because I never heard the term. This is one of the Laiko songs that made it onto all of my general playlists.

-Since Mariah Carey tried to copyright “The Queen of Christmas”, I wonder if she was upset that Ariana Grande was featured next to her on Spotify’s The Queen of Christmas playlists. I’m just joking. I’m sure she was fine since she invited Ariana to participate in her Christmas feature on Apple TV+.

-Now, I can drink eggnog without worrying about if there is a toilet nearby.

-Now that I think about it, I guess this is kind of true. 😉

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to postpone the release of my pan flute album, Amor y Terror.

LOL. I was not serious about releasing this album. While unpacking back in July, I came across the random pan flute that I bought while studying abroad in Ecuador (2001). I’m surprised that it was still in decent shape.

Question(s) for the Day?

-If Christmas is your thing, what are your holiday go-tos that get you into the Christmas spirit?

-Do you have any resolutions for 2023?

  1. Not panpipes! Noooo! We used to have panpipe buskers when I lived in London that you could not escape from in the flat my then-boyfriend lived in, drifting over the rooftops and in through the windows. Argh!

I have a Christmas Day parkrun habit – not the one I help to run but the original one I ran at. I’m planning to run there, around and back (with a cuppa in the cafe before starting back because I am English and that is what we do). We also like to have a walk around the local park after lunch, watching middle-class kids riding their new unicycles …

No resolutions for 2023, I would like to have a year of solid running with no breaks for injuries or the like, and I would like to run more than 9 miles in one run, which was apparently my longest run this last year! No reading challenges for myself this year, apart from to continue to read diversely and share different people’s written experiences on my blog. Happy holidays!
