Planned Miles: who cares?

Completed Miles: I dunno

Adding more crap to the sh*tstorm

Last week, I mentioned that I am pretty close to my breaking point since moving to Virginia. I guess the universe was like let’s add some more BS to KOS’s plate. Sunday night, the husband woke me to inform me that the ceiling was leaking from the evening’s storm. Ugh, and I was having a good post-bottle of Chardonnay nap.

So on top of all of everything, I now have to deal with a leaky roof. On Monday, the roof guy gave me a quick assessment of what might be going on since he repaired the roof (and kept very detailed notes). After giving his assessment, he highly recommended that I put a bucket into the crawl space to collect any additional water that might continue to drip from the roof to the second floor’s ceiling because Wednesday was the earliest that he could return to repair the roof. I did as he instructed and did not find a leaky roof, BUT I found this instead.

It seems that the central air unit, not the roof, was the problem. Water has been accumulating in the unit’s reservoir for god knows how long considering the amount of rust inside of it. Also, it looks like the person who installed the unit (about six years) ago forgot to take his empty cans of beer with him.

When I thought it was the roof issue, I had a few choices to make:

  1. Have a meltdown of epic proportions
  2. Drink a bunch of booze
  3. Go for a run

For this latest sh*tstorm, I deceived to go for a run. I was so frustrated with everything that I did not mind running 10 miles on a treadmill.

I think that the run went well because I was too exhausted to worry about the roof for a few hours. I guess at the end of it all, I worried about the wrong thing.

Adding more crap to the sh*tstorm – Running Group

Last Wednesday, I did give that running group another shot. However, I do not think that I was in the right frame of mind because I had somewhat of a crappy attitude because of some work BS. Since I did not do my speed training workout on Tuesday, I decided that I could do my one-mile intervals while running with the group. Well, that was a stupid idea. Since I was intervaling between running one mile followed by walking 0.25 miles, I kind of lost the fast- and middle-pack runners; however, I was too fast for the walkers. The runners were doing a five-mile route, and the walkers were doing a 2.5-3 mile route. Long story short, I ended up losing everyone. Ugh.

Here’s the thing with this group. Yes, they post the routes on IG before the runs. HOWEVER, they post screenshots of the routes, which do not really help because you cannot really zoom in to see street names so the map gives you a VERY general idea of the routes. Like why not save the routes on Strava so NEW people could actively visualize the route should they become lost? Then again, it was my fault for not going with the flow and just running with folks instead of doing my dumb intervals.

I will say that Lake Christopher is quite beautiful during sunset.

LOL at my memories of Lake Christopher. Well . . . the Kempsville section of Va Beach. Back in the day, I would “run away” on my bicycle from home to this part of town (probably about 1.5 – 2 miles from where I was living) after becoming upset with my mother. I think that I was about 11-13 years old when I used to pull this crap. Once, the joke was on me because I was gone all day and my mom didn’t even know that I had left the house.

Since I enjoyed Beachbody’s Three Week Yoga Retreat, I tried to keep it going with Piyo.

Basically, this 60-day program combines pilates and yoga, hence the name ‘piyo’. I will be perfectly honest and admit that I’m not really sure what is the difference between pilates and yoga. In Piyo, I’m like what are the yoga and pilates parts?

Goals for the week:

-Get the damn central air unit fixed.

-Do a 15-mile long run.

-Look into adult swimming lessons. Yes, I know how to swim but I would like to learn how to properly do all four strokes. Well . . . technically, I have the front stroke down, but I would love to learn how to do flip turns.

Questions of the Day:

-How was your week?

-Do you have any fun upcoming fall races?

-Do you go all out with decorating your house/apt for Halloween?

  1. Oh no! What a week! It’s too bad you can’t hold the awful company that installed the A/C unit accountable.
I have a 5k coming up in a couple of weeks, which is unusual for me since I haven’t done that many 5k’s but I’m actually looking forward to it even though I know it will be hilly as hell. It will be a challenge anyway, or at least that’s what I’m telling myself now.
I just have a small box of Halloween decorations, basically a small scarecrow for the front porch, a few things for the table, and a couple of other small decorations. Definitely not all-out.

    • Fortunately, the homeowners insurance covered the consultation, and it was a relatively minor problem.

I was thinking about converting the front yard into a graveyard scene, and have the tombstones be titles of canceled TV shows. Let’s see if I’ll actually do it. . . I might settle on a raggedty Jack O’lantern and call it a day.

  2. I decorate the house for fall more so than just Halloween but I do have a few decorations specific to that.

My understanding of pilates is it’s more core focused and strength building compared to yoga. I’ve only done like two workouts though and never piyo.

    • Your pilates vs yoga explaination makes sense. Thanks.

Since I’ve lived in apts for pretty all of my adult, I never really had the space . . . or a yard to go all out with decoration. OMG. I just realized now we can get a BIG Christmas tress instead of a Charlie Brown one.

      • Having a full sized tree will be a lot more fun to decorate! We have no outside outlets so we just decorate our fence with solar Christmas lights. We decorate more inside the house.

      • I’m kinda boring/simple when it comes to decorating Christmas trees. I’m team just hang white lights on a tree. Back in the day, my mom and I would get into minor arguments about decorating the tree bc she always wanted to put everything and the kitchen sick (eg all of my ugly 🎄 arts & crafts decorations that I made in elementary school).

I didn’t know about solar exterior Christmas lights. Thanks for mentioning it.

  3. What a nightmare with the leak! I remember when we moved here, there were so many problems due to the guy that sold it to us taking all the short cuts possible …

Hope things feel a bit better now.
