Random Thoughts Thursday

-I lost a bit of steam last week for NYC Marathon training. I’ m not sure why I lose my mojo anytime i have to do a long run that 15+ miles.

-How does one avoid post NYC Marathon blues/depression, register for another one. Looks like I’ll be running New Orleans Marathon in February . . . fingers crossed.

– For the longest, I have been meaning to return to New Orleans for a trip. Some might know that I completed my undergraduate studies (’98-’02) at Xavier University, which is in New Orleans. I figure that I’m ready to visit again . . . after nearly two decades.

-Yay or nay for PB&J deviled eggs? Who comes up with this mess?

-When the hell is the hosting city for Eurovision 2022 going to be announced. We know that it’s going to be in Italy, but WHERE in Italy. People gotta make their travel arrangements and Olive Garden – Italia reservations. Just joking about the Olive Garden. Everyone knows that Sbarros is where it’s at for Italian getaways. πŸ˜‰

-For the Rock n Roll Madrid post race festivities, I wonder which beer will be served. The EDP had better not pull that Heineken 0.0 crap in EspaΓ±a.

-Interesting, I did not know that there is a Madrid, NY.

-I have not been bouldering for at least two weeks.

-I wonder if I can squeeze in one last NYC beach day next week. Looks like next Thursday and Friday will be mid to high 70s F.

-Do I need to purchase any clothing for our Spain trip?

-Lol, is a week enough time to relearn Spanish? πŸ˜‰

  1. I would never eat or even try a PB&J egg, BUT to each their own. I think I’ve been to or through Madrid NY once, but I can’t remember when or why. Any excuse to purchase new clothing is a good excuse πŸ™‚

    • Perhaps, I would try one just to say I did it. I figure that if you are going to combine eggs, peanut butter, and jelly, why not have a slice of cake intead. πŸ˜‰

I agree with the new clothing piece. My issue is that I’m trying to drop some weight, and fear that I’ll get too comfortable with my current size. I’ve put on way too many pandemic pounds. Then again, I’ll buy a couple of things from H&M since their stuff only lasts for about 3-5 washes.

      Have a nice weekend.

  2. I change my shoes every 400 miles and I have two pairs going at any one time (currently, one pair for long runs, one less comfy pair for short ones).

Top of my mind right now: what right has a little middle-aged woman got to have Overtrained! But overtrained I have, and run myself into the ground. Turns out there’s a reason no one of my “standard” runs as much as me. Hm. Also: what am I going to do with all that extra time running 5-7 miles less a week?

    • Thanks for the reference point. Usually, I use one pair until the shoes pretty much fall apart. I bought my current pair in March, and there are holes in the shoes. I’m thinking that I probably should buy another pay very soon so I can “break them in” before NYC Marathon in Nov.

You could fill your extra time with tacos. πŸ˜‰ Sorry someone mentioned tacos on Twitter, and that’s all I can think of for lunch.

Since you like to run, could you reduce the amount of exertion? For example, walking those 5-7 miles/week (maybe with some ankle weights)?

  3. Brooks often offers me free races with Rock n Roll. If I decide to run the 26.2 distance ever again maybe I will run this one! Currently bored with marathons since I have run so many. I may run the 50k in Dallas ‘for fun’ in December. I am enjoying working out and getting paid for it currently haha. Have a great weekend and enjoy that New York cooler weather!

  4. Random thoughts? I recently watched the series “Pine Gap” about a US/Australian listening post in the Outback. I think there really is a place like this is Australia. It will make you want to turn off your phone and leave it at home!
But the submarine deal the US cut with Australia shows how close our relationship really is with them.
Now it’s not just the UK that we have a “special relationship” with.
And I can see how a 15+ mile run might not be that motivating.

  5. I’ve never considered any rock and roll events because they seem too big for my liking but if I did I think New Orleans would be it! Such a neat city and I hope to go back someday. Do you know where you’re staying? We stayed at the French Market Inn on Decatur Street. I know it’s been closed due to covid but hopefully will reopen soon. Very reasonable price, fantastic location (if you’re wanting to stay in the French Quarter anyway) and a nice comfortable room.

My shoes usually last at least 400 miles. I have a buddy who is lucky to get 300 on his though, he blames being heavier for why his shoes wear out sooner. I can usually start to tell when mine are maxing out as I get aches in spots that I normally wouldn’t.

    • I do not know where we are staying just yet; I only registered for the race. You bring up a good point bc I probably should start looking into accommodations now. Prices will start going up bc of Mardi Gras season.

You know what, I never considered that weight could be a factor in the wear n tear of my running shoes. THANKS!

Hope things are going a bit better with your family.

      • The pet scan done on Thursday showed the cancer is only in one spot! That was very promising news. Port gets placed this Thursday with a first round of chemo.
