Food Pic of the Week

Angel of Harlem (***)

2272 Frederick Douglass Blvd, New York, NY 10027

Hallelujah! The weekend is finally here. Although I do not have any plans . . . I think, I’m so glad that I can relax over the next couple of days.

Last weekend, the hubby and I went to one of our favorite Harlem-based places for brunch. Angel of Harlem has great food, amazing music, and bottomless mimosas. Since it was the Fourth of July, we decided to skip our Whole 30 diet for the day . . . errr for the weekend.

Shrimps and Grits with a side of sausage

While I am not a huge fan of shrimp and grits, I definitely needed the dish. I was having some digestive issues (diarrhea . . . keeping it real) and needed something to “soak up” things in my belly and intestinal tract. I guess I should not talk about poop while discussing food. Anywho, this was the perfect remedy!!!

Oh, I do not hate shrimp and grits, per se. I just cannot wrap my head around having a breakfast side (e.g. grits) as an entree. Of course sausage and bacon are clear exceptions to this rule. 😉 Actually, an entire plate of maple bacon sounds so delicious right now. Also, I find that many places do not put enough shrimp in the dish or use scraggly, anorexic shrimp.

Overall, this place is perfect for brunch because it feels more like attending a party rather than having a meal at a restaurant. The restaurant hires a DJ for brunch, and he plays a lot of old school hits. While the music is great, my only complaint is that the music is way too loud. Or . . . maybe I’m just getting old.

Here I am serenading the hubby (using the mimosa flute as a microphone) with Frankie Beverly’s “Before I Let Go” – a classic hit.

Just as an FYI: This group’s music is ALWAYS featured at any and every Black/African-American cookout. It’s one of those timeless songs that NEVER goes out of style . . . kinda like Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September”.

Have a great weekend, y’all!
