Food Pic of the Week

Lido (***)

2168 Frederick Douglass Blvd, New York, NY 10026

The hubby and I stayed near home for Pride Sunday and hit up Lido for an “easy” brunch. Normally, I try to go somewhere near the Village for brunch and to check out the Pride Parade and associated festivities. After the year before last’s parade, I told myself never again. While I understand the importance of the Pride Parade, I just cannot deal with the large amount of people, over-congested streets/sidewalks, the crazy heat, and general riff raff. After that year’s parade I was like: why do I keep going to this thing only to become frustrated, crabby, and overheated/sweaty for most of the day. In the future, I’m totally fine with watching the parade on TV in a well air-conditioned bar.

Since I just had a birthday, this meme is going to be my motto for the rest of my time in this realm.

Lethal Weapon meme.

Random: Maybe I’ll binge watch Lethal Weapon this weekend.

Anyway, on to the food.

Braised Short Rib Hash with Poached Eggs

Brunch at Lido's Restaurant in Harlem, New York.

OMG, this dish was so delicious that I was about to order another one for the road. The shredded rib was beautifully seasoned and super juicy. Also, the service size was perfect for someone who is starving.

While the food was pretty good, the restaurant’s service could have been a bit better. I’m not sure if they were extra busy because of Pride Sunday, if they were short-staffed for the day, or a combination. One, it seemed to take forever to flag down a waiter to order. A hangry pet peeve of mine: seeing tables who arrived after me ordering/receiving food before my table. Two, getting refills on our bottomless mimosas at times was like pulling teeth. Y’all know that I do NOT mess around with my bottomless brunch cocktails.

Except for the little hiccup with the slow service, I would not mind going back to Lido for brunch. Based on our recent experience, it looks like 1 – 1:30 pm is the best time to visit for brunch.

Have a save 4th of July!!!!

Question of the Day:

How are you celebrating the 4th? I’m asking this questions because 1. I’m nosey; 2. I need some inspiration because my plan (so far) is to watch Lethal Weapon movies.

  2. I’m trying to be extra patient when I go out to eat lately as most restaurants in my area are in need of staff.

No real holiday plans this year; I’m sure there will be fireworks in the area (heard some last night) that we can go walk in the cemetery and see from afar. I volunteered at a 5 mile road race this morning. Jason may want to watch Independence Day so we’ll see!

    • Lol. I “accidentally” watched Independence Day. Someone posted on IG that it was released 25 yrs ago. I remember getting my driver’s license a few days before the release of the movie and driving to see it.
