Food Pic of the Week

Artichoke Basille’s Pizza (***)

321 E 14th Street, NY, NY 10003

What a blast from the past. Also, there’s goes all my calories for the week.

Artichoke Basille's Pizza in East Village, NYC.

In between bar hopping, a friend and I grabbed some pizza from Artichoke. This place holds a special place in my heart because I used to live across the street from Artichoke. Actually, now the pizza place is on the same side of the street where my old apartment is located. Man those apartments must feel like hell. While I was living in this building, there was a bar pizza joint next day to the apartment building, which made the building hot as hell when the pizza joint was making pizzas. I mean it was great (with the exception of the pizza smell) during the cold, NYC winter months, but summer months were hell on Earth. I can only imagine how unbearable those apartments must be during the summer being sandwiched between TWO pizza joints.

Sorry, I went off on a rant. Anywho. Circa 2007-2010, pretty much most of my weekend drinking and partying shenanigans involved Artichoke Pizza in some form or another. If I did not get pizza after clubbing or lounging, I definitely got a 32 oz plastic cup of Killian’s Red for 4-5 bucks. Killian’s was the best choice from the selection of Bud, Bud Light, and (maybe) Miller Light. The place was so popular with NYC’s party people that there would be a 30 – 60 min wait for a slice at 1/2/3 am.

I got a slice of the amazing crab slice with a pepperoni slice for “dessert”, and I gotta say that the pizza is still pretty amazing.

Sorry for the blurry photo, I think I was moving my phone while taking the picture. Also, I was too hungry to retake the pizza. Honestly, I think the pepperoni pizza tastes way better now than back in my 2010 East Village, West Village, Lower East Side partying days.
